Bear first became well-known with his classic tale of nanotechnology run amuck, Blood Music, but my favorite of his is an unusual celtic fantasy called The Infinity Concerto (since packaged, with its sequel, as Songs of Earth and Power). I'm not as fond of Bear as I once was, but I still read him now and then.
